Spontaneous Road Trips!

We are such last minute people, it’s unbelievable.

I woke up this morning to a group chat message on my phone all about heading over to Banff, AB, this weekend. That is probably one of my favorite things about living in Calgary. Our backyards are literally the mountains. It’s such a beautiful scenery.

This weekend is going to be jam packed with activities for me.

Joe and I did a little bit of shopping before I headed to work earlier today and purchased some new clothes, a portable BBQ, propane gas and some lawn chairs. We plan on going out tomorrow morning to some place that Joe calls “The Oasis”. I don’t know where it is exactly on the map, but I do know it’s one of the most relaxing and peaceful places you could go to during the summer. I don’t think that many people are aware of the location, well, I don’t think anyone knows about it at all other than Joe and his friends. So it’s usually just the few of us there whenever we go out. Joe’s ventured out many times with his buddies annually, and it wasn’t until last year he introduced me to it.

The water is from the melted snow off of the mountains, so it is very clear and blue. There is an area along the river where you can jump into, and you can see the different colored rocks line the bottom of the hole and up. The awful thing is that I can’t swim (I had a bad near-drowning experience when I was younger), so I don’t jump in. But I do like watching others jump in and experience the ice cold water during the summer.

We planned to go out with a friend from work – Kira – but I’m not sure if she will be going. That’s alright, it will still be nice to get out of Calgary, sit by the river and have BBQ for a few hours. It’s definitely something to do on this long weekend we’re having.

There’s always a party happening on Saturday nights. It just so happens that this weekend on Saturday, one of our co-workers – Maria 5 (her last name starts with a ‘V’, so she calls herself Maria ‘5’) – will be hosting a birthday party for her son. Everyone who works at our workplace are invited, so I’m expecting it to be pretty rowdy. As it always is each time she has a party at her house.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a long weekend if you didn’t go to a different city either. Joe and I are heading out on our spontaneous trip to Banff with Ardel, Michael, our workplace twins (Noura and Kiana) and we’re sneaking Tinsae in with us! We originally booked a place for 6 people, but of course, last minute responses mean we have to sneak last minute people in.

It was hard to book something for 6 people, especially on a long weekend like this. I’m so glad that we were patient and actively looking that we were able to spot one so quick. It’s about $66 per person for the night, which is pretty cheap compared to the other hotels that we were looking at. There’s one king bed, one queen size bed, a sofa bed, fireplace, kitchen, dining room, living room, two full washrooms, and a pool we can jump into later in the day. There are some rooms that you can get where there is a hot tub right by your bed as well. It’s as if we’re all renting a condo for the night. Because I am an Expedia member, I ended up saving $140 with my 30% discount + redeeming my member points. So honestly, we got a really good deal for 6-7 people. You’re all welcome!!

I love spontaneous relationships/friendships. They make my life so much more interesting. A little bit expensive because they’re all last minute decisions, but so, so, so much fun. And you have such a great time with all of your friends. Live life to the fullest, right? Have fun while you still can!

I will update this weekend with daily entries. So if you’re interested in reading about them, keep your eyes out for those posts!

Thanks for reading. 🙂
